The Art of Aaron Monu

"A multifaceted cultivator of flavorful art, Aarons craft revolves around the exploration of ones inner sanctum"

"Expression is a tool wielded by not only professionals, but those that wish to make a mark"

How much of our inspiration is limited because we categorize the subject of art.

Expression is a tool wielded by not only professionals, but those that wish to make a mark.

Energy can be changed from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed. Black; the absence of primary colors, is created by the combination of said colors. The Art of Aaron Monu is; experimental, it follows a process without being fearful of spontaneity and unknown variables.

“A multifaceted cultivator of flavorful art, Aarons craft revolves around the exploration of ones inner sanctum”. A visual and auditory artist, I have found Aaron’s presence to be calming, studious of nature, his art is a reflection of life. To showcase his art & creative process, let's venture back to August 11, 2020.

“Bzzzzzzzzz” the sound of #1J. As I walked into the building, I began to feel anxious, I overthought, and wondered what was I doing here. My feelings weren’t towards Aaron; I’ve known him for a few years, but my nervousness was towards this project. Does my vision make sense, am I as creative as I think I am. By the time I reached his apt, I quelled those feelings of anxiousness and fear, and remembered “Everything is art”. Aaron’s story, and process is a mood. Im inspired by his art, his ability to express emotion through canvas painting, experience through technical design and capture moods through photography.

After finalizing outfits, and staging furniture, Aaron unzipped the sleek garment bag hanging in between the door leading to his bedroom; inside, a custom suede light brown trucker jacket. Sand contrast color breast pockets, I slipped the jacket on, too big for my frame (I clearly didn’t workout during quarantine). I appreciated the attention to detail, the same detail that goes into selecting the proper wine for an occasion. Did I not mention that Aaron is also the co-founder of @WinesForTheCulture, run by him and his partner in love, Jamila, they make wine accessible to the everyday drinker while highlighting and honoring the culture behind it.

As we reached the mid-way point of the shoot, I had to inquire about the center piece hanging in the living room. In trance, the color yellow is warmth, energy and inspiration, and as Aaron described, a good signifier for enlightenment and spirituality. The piece, (painted by Aaron) was a birthday present to himself, a gift of self-love and self actualization. A continued expression of trusting oneself, inspiring others to experience life, and turn inspirations into art.

Adolescent summers in Nevada influenced Aaron’s love for nature, his exploration of mountains and elements gave an ever evolving ecosystem of inspiration. Collegiate studies in the sciences deepened his understanding, giving his creativity a transitional and unorthodox process. His scientific, or should I say artistic theory proves that “Everything is Art”

We tend to categorize ourselves so others can comprehend us, we subsequently limit our reach and diminish how impactful our art is. Art is fluid, and all it requires is belief in oneself

As we progress through life, we make memories. We reminisce about how we felt and how we made others feel. We paint mental images of locations, and how we ended up there. We are inspired by the progressions we’ve made, and drop push-pins on further endeavors. Be not afraid of creative thinking, embrace your art.
